I can draw pretty well, but among other artists I wouldn't call myself better than most. What I do is take my best skill and try to do something different with it. Instead of just relying on the drawing as a finished piece, I cut up my drawings and reassemble them into new imagery. That way my signature mark making still takes hold, just in a more complex and labored manner. Architecture works out best for me because it is the best way for me to place myself in the location, which are the streets of New Orleans. Despite all of our problems, my home town inspires me to capture so many unique images of the landscape. The sorrows that persist in our community make the joyful moments so much more meaningful.
