Closing Night

Closing Night is an oil painting on canvas, 22 X 28 inches unframed. It depicts the Renel Theatre which used to be in the West Oak Lane section of Philadelphia. I went there many times as a kid to see matinees on Saturday afternoons. The Renel closed sometime in the 70s and was converted to a church. It is completely unrecognizable now. I used some old black and white photos I found online as the basis for the painting, but the colors and the nighttime setting are all from my memory and imagination.
