Painting-Mixed Media-Social Media-Re-Invention

Mitchell is an extremely passionate painter who specializes in Landscapes, Still Lifes and Abstract. The mediums he works in is acrylic, watercolor, pen and ink.His artistic style runs the gamut from figurative to abstract and is known to be highly prolific. He is based out of New York City.

Growing up in New York City, as a young person he secretively spent many hours wandering the halls of the MET, where he would take classes, sketch the great statues, paintings and study the work of the great master.

He received a BFA in Illustration from Syracuse University in 1976, where he enjoyed doing freelance work. He went onto a 40 plus year career in fashion as Creative Director for Parade Dress Co.and Jessica Howard, while still continuing to create art, whenever possible. He was inspired by colors, shape, pattern and form, which helped his smooth transition from fashion to his art career. 

His greatest influences are Van Gogh, Matisse, Picasso, Diebenkorn, Hockney, Christian Dior and Charles James.

Mitchell’s work has been exhibited at The Art Students League of New York, Pleaides Gallery in Chelsea, Spectrum Gallery, Centrebrook Ct., Long Beach Art League of New York, and the Rockville Centre Library,Long Island.

Having retired in November 2022, he returned to the Arts Students League of New York, where he has been studying with Frank Ocain and Margret McCann.

He has opened a website, where his work is for sale and is building his following on Instagram, by creating educational, entertaining and humorous content. He believes in re-invention.

Through my art I hope to achieve a pleasurable sensory experience and offer the viewer my perspective of the natural world. I am stimulated by color, shapes, textures and movements that one finds in nature. I am drawn to the seascapes, landscapes and terrain of the Northeast. My personal style falls between the world of figurative and abstract.. My mediums are painting and drawing with acrylics, watercolor, mixed media, ink and crayon pastels. Some of my favorite artists, to name a few, are Matisse, Van Gogh, Picasso, Diebenkorn, and Hockney. I am extremely passionate about creating new work almost every day, pushing my artistic boundries and sharing my creativity with others.
