William Jobson

Self taught with a lifelong drive to creating images, William Jobson included art as a main part of his education from High School through his Design studies at FIT in New York. A career in Advertising and Marketing progressed along with his fine art activity.  Currently Living and painting in Englewood Cliffs, N.J.

I think of each of my paintings as a random page fallen from an unknown book. They illustrate a passage that can only be imagined. Or, as they are emancipated, they may suggest or become their own story.

I work in oil paint on a variety of surfaces including canvas, wood and paper in a range of sizes. The subjects I render include urban street scenes and people. While these are real places, I see each as a principal in a great drama. They are still but have action and motion, and have their place in the light. 

We are drawn to contrasts. I strive for strong contrasts in my paintings. Not just of light and shadow or the presence and absence of shapes in space, but also the contrast of past and present. The defined stillness of the past shines against the blurred motion of the present.
