Jean Marie Bucich

Jean Marie’s large scale oil paintings deliver their most dramatic impact, when the viewer experiences their depth and scale which reveal her passion and inspiration. The push and pull of depth and light allow the flowers to come alive, transcending from the canvas. With a BFA from The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art in New York, Jean Marie studied painting with Jack Whitten. She has also done extensive study of Old Master painting techniques with Gian Berto Vanni; as well as Early Renaissance, Renaissance and Baroque History of Art and Architecture with Dale Harris. Jean Marie has exhibited in various galleries, national art competitions, donated paintings to charities, and exhibited in “Art for Healing.” She exhibits in Newport RI, New York, NJ, CT and Australia. She does commissioned pieces for the interior design trade. Her artwork is in private collections internationally, and can be found at jeanmariebucich.com. art.jeanmarie@gmail.com for inquiries

Statement

Inspired by nature, I became interested in the architectural detail of flowers, their vibrant color and their moment in time. In my oil paintings, the petals and leaves play within the confines of the painting’s edges. These over-scaled floral portraits draw the viewer into the detail of each flower’s anatomy. Chiaroscuro is juxtaposed against the transparency of the flower, aglow with life. In my new collection of paintings, the flowers emerge as self-aware, persuading the viewer to take part in their role in time and in nature. They stand confidently, with a delicate strength, denying their own vulnerability. This oversized perspective of flowers signifies more than a mere representation of the literal and calls our attention to their importance within nature’s grand scheme. My hope is that my paintings will encourage the viewer to discover a sense of oneself as part of a larger whole in nature.
